Ep. 48 | Favourite Beatles Extras

Sure, we've all heard the Abbey Road medley a million times, but when's the last time you checked out Mean Mr. Mustard Take 20 or Polythene Pam Take 27? This week, the guys dig through their crates of reissues, bonus tracks, and bootlegs to unearth their favorite Fab Four extras.

Tune in to find out:

  • Can TJ possibly find a way to tie this one to a Broadway musical and/or a 1970s sitcom?

  • Which Lennon rarity did Tony cover from his living room/recording studio in 2014?

  • Does Coach Ditka listen to this podcast? (If he did, probably not anymore...?)

Take it, Tony! (And TJ!)

BONUS Ep. 47 | "Look at Me" Ultimate Mix, Joe Strummer on Dark Horse

It's another BONUS EDITION to cover some breaking news from the Beatlesverse. Tony and TJ tackle the first album release in a decade from George Harrison's Dark Horse Records—Joe Strummer's posthumous Assembly—and another sneak peek Plastic Ono Band Ultimate Mix of one of John's sweetest tunes, "Look at Me."

But really, the guys are just using these new releases as an excuse to talk about musical theater, John Lennon's love of cats (and Cats), TJ's love of Tucker, Tony's blasphemous lack of love for Prince, and a whole lot more.

We're back with a full episode Saturday morning, but in the meantime, send your hate mail over to our Facebook page

Ep. 44 | Ringo’s “Zoom In” EP (2021)

It's rare that TJ and Tony get the chance to deep-dish about NEW RELEASES from the Fab Four, but last week, Ringo Starr dropped his new "Zoom In" EP.

Could it be his best work since "Vertical Man"? Will Tony etch another record into his Solo Beatles Mount Rushmore? (Spoiler: NO.)

We also check out the newly released Plastic Ono Band bonus track "It'll Be Me" featuring John, Ringo, Klaus Voorman, and Billy Preston, as well as a couple of early George Martin experimental synth tracks slated for a remix and reissue in May.

As always, things get a little wacky.

  • TJ geeks out about 1990's Live from Knebworth

  • Tony gives Ringo the Pete Best cold shoulder

  • And have you heard Ringo's long-rumored Nine Inch Nails collaboration?

Here's to the songs we might not remember,
With a podcast we won't forget.

Ep. 43 | “Mother” Ultimate Mix and Beatles Streamers

We are back from our hiatus with a brand new episode! In which TJ and Tony evaluate some brand new Fab Four content! (OR IS IT?)

This week, we dig into:

  • The newly released version of "Mother" from John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: Ultimate Mix, or Ultimately Uneventful?

  • The mysterious new "Beatles EPs" popping up on streaming services like Spotify—All About the Girl, New Years Workout, Meditation Mix, and so on

  • The baffling inclusion of "Here Comes the Sun" on The Beatles For Kids - Animals compilation

  • Our own proposals for some unique new streaming Beatles EPs

And, of course, all the usual shenanigans, tangents, needle drops, Bernard Purdie mythology, classic TV sitcom talk, and JUST MAYBE... the debut of a never-before-heard Olivia Newton John collaboration.

Ep. 6.2 | Discovering the Beatles (Deluxe Reissue)

More new episodes are coming soon, but today Tony and TJ have pressed a limited edition light green vinyl of another classic episode exclusively for their top fans on Spotify. Personally curated by Producer Casey, the fresh remix and remaster of Discovering the Beatles features an A-List assortment of musical moments and nostalgic needle drops. A limited quantity is available for this offer - while supplies last - so act quickly!

[FROM JULY 2020] TJ and Tony take their long and rambling road down memory lane, reminiscing about discovering the Fab Four for the first time, with detours to Grease, Webster and NBC-era Letterman.

Shout-outs to Pear Records, Denny Dent and Valerie Harper.

Fact cheque please: D.A. Pennebaker not Pennemaker, Sherman Hemsley not Helmsley.

Ep. 41 | The Decca Auditions (1962)

This week, Tony and TJ hop in their time machine to revisit some of the earliest proto-Beatles (pre-Ringo!) recordings: The Decca Auditions. Never officially released—you can find them all on YouTube, or if you're lucky, a Japanese import CD—these tapes capture the band at their most raw. Things to look forward to:

  • The guys get... a little punchy

  • The Fab Three get a little nervous for the big audition

  • Poor Pete Best gets the Charlie Brown treatment (why's everybody always pickin' on him?)

  • Tony gets a lesson in British proper noun pronunciation

  • And TJ (spoiler alert?) finds a way to tie it all back to musical theater and 80s sitcoms.

We'd like to say "thank you" on behalf of the show and ourselves, and we hope we passed the audition.

BONUS Ep. 36 | Phil Spector Dead at 81

As a bonus podcast, we have an excerpt from Twitch & Shout on the Chicago4Real Twitch Channel, in which TJ and Tony acknowledge the passing of legendary murderer and record producer Phil Spector. They discuss his connection to the Fab Four and the complications of assessing the artistic work of a convicted killer.

Plus an excerpt from I Dream of Jeannie!

This was originally broadcast on January 18, 2021.

Ep. 31 | Favourite Musical Moments & Quirks, 1966-70

Picking up where they left off, the Tangential Two cherry pick their favorite moments and quirks from Revolver to Let It Be, and including Past Masters. Spoiler: Tony likes it when Beatles scream and lions supposedly roar.

Along the way they reveal "Beatle insiders" shorthand, explore deep Brady Bunch, and connect the “ying” and yang of cruise ship spas and rodeo rap-rock.

Plus more fun needle drops and Beatle drips. This podcast originally came with a 24-page full color picture book, but is now covered up by an ugly purple bar.

Ep. 30 | Favorite Musical Moments & Quirks, 1962-65

From squeaky bass drum pedals to orgasmic yeahs, TJ and Tony divulge their favorite moments and quirks from the Beatles recorded catalog, covering Please, Please Me to Rubber Soul.

Along the way, TJ tells us what life was like when Benson was on television while Tony ponders what we may hear on future Beatle reissues.

Hopefully this episode will secure the Untitled Beatles Podcast a slot on MeTV Radio...or at least make their bone phones ring.

Ep. 24 | Fab Political Songs

It's election month in the US and the Untitled Beatles Podcast is cautiously optimistic.

After paying lip service to the recently released John Lennon Gimme Some Truth Ultimate Mixes, TJ and Tony delve into the political songs of The Beatles and their solo work, with the occasional zoom glitch and personal political view expressed. Q-flakes beware!

Plus, TJ opens up about his Marshall Crenshaw support circle, and at long last one of the UBP off-topic tangents spawns an important social justice movement. Lookin' at you, U2...
